Give Me The Night

Born in 1943, George Benson started his career as a singer in nightclubs at the age of 8.
At age 11 he recorded four tracks on the RCA X label.
In 1965 Benson formed his own Jazz group and was “discovered” by talent scout John Hammond. He recorded two well received albums of Jazz-Soul and Bop for Columbia before leaving the label in 1967 and signing with Verve. From 1968-1976, Benson worked with producer Creed Taylor on both the A&M and CTI labels.
In 1976, Benson signed with Warner Brothers and began emphasizing on his vocal talents. While always highly regarded as a jazz guitarist, his vocals are what finally brought him into the mainstream.
George Benson has continued recording to this day, and is still considered one of the greatest Jazz guitarists of all time.

The song I chose to highlight today is “Give Me The Night”, which was released on the album of the same name in 1980. I think it is my favorite of his “vocal” songs.

I have also uploaded the album “The Best Of George Benson” if you would like to give it a listen.
