The Queen Is Dreamin' Of California
This may sound silly, but with all of the acting that Queen Latifah is doing, I am almost afraid that people are going to forget what a great singer she is.
Today’s song is of course Queen Latifah’s “California Dreamin’” off the fantastic album The Dana Owens Album. If you have not heard this one you are missing out on a real treat.
This album, released in September of 2004, showcases Queen Latifah’s real vocal talents. While she is known to be a great rapper/MC, the Dana Owens Album is a collection of jazz and R&B standards.
Each song is so well done that I don’t see how anyone could be even slightly disappointed.
Queen Latifah was born Dana Owens in March of 1970. She was the daughter and brother of police officers. Just to show that she was born a real person, she worked for a time at Burger King. Nothing she has was given to her, it was legitimately earned.
Her first album, All Hail The Queen, was released to good reviews in 1989. She became the first female MC to go gold with her 3rd album, Black Reign.
Besides being a great singer, Queen Latifah is also a great actress. She has appeared in TV shows such as “Living Single” and “The Queen Latifah Show”. Some of her movies include “Barbershop2”, “Beauty Shop”, “Scary Movie 3”, and of course “Chicago.”
