I'd Far Rather Be Happy Than Right Any Day
Just got home from the movies. Dang, two movies in one month, which HAS to be a new record for us!
Tonight we saw The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. What can I say but, fabulous!
For anyone who has read the book written by the late (GREAT) Douglas Adams, this is going to be a real treat for you. For those who haven’t read the book, go see the movie anyway!
The movie, starring Martin Freeman (from The Office, which is one of my favorite TV shows), Mos Def, Sam Rockwell, Zooey Deschanel, and Warwick Davis, stays pretty true to the book. Of course like a lot of books-turned-movies, they had to leave plenty out, but I think they did a good job keeping such an odd story together.
Warwick Davis as Marvin (voiced by Alan Rickman) came off perfectly. Who couldn’t love a depressed android? Martin Freeman is the PERFECT Arthur Dent.
Actually the whole movie was cast perfectly. If I were told to recast the movie I can’t say that I would make a single change.
This is a “fun” movie. Intelligent, witty, and totally bizarre at times, Douglas Adams’ humor is second to none.
It is a shame that he died before the movie was completed. Adams wrote the majority of the script and when he passed away it was finished by Karey Kirkpatrick who, thankfully, didn’t screw it up at all.
If you are looking for a treat of a movie, this is the one for you! If you haven’t read the book, you MUST go with an OPEN MIND!
This is another one I will be buying on DVD as soon as it comes out, and you know how cheap I am about doing that!
But don’t panic, I will watch it at least 42 times!
