There's Gold In Them There Spices!
I had to go to WalMart this morning.
Normally I have no troubles because I go during the week in the morning when there really aren’t that many people there.
I forgot that it’s Spring Break!
There must have been 10,000 people in there with me. It was insane. Kids screaming, people pushing, carts left in the middle of the aisles. I thought I was going to have to break out a bottle of rubbing alcohol before I could get out of there.
Ap0k wants me to make ribs for dinner tonight so I thought I would go all chefy and do something cool. The recipe I picked (baby back ribs with a spicy apple glaze) sounded really good. When I got to the store I found that spice prices have risen dramatically.
Two, yes TWO, vanilla beans were $8! Cardamom pods were $19.99 for a tiny bottle!
So the glaze will get vanilla extract and no cardamom.
I am also making green beans with ham hocks and corn fritters. Since I quit my job I actually have time to cook again. I love it!
I almost bought a DVD recorder today. But after I couldn’t think of the last time I wanted to record anything off the TV I changed my mind. We haven’t even had a vcr for almost two years. See, I can be a responsible shopper when I want to be.
