Terri Schaivo

I am not going to go in depth on this subject, but I have to say that it is time to let Terri Schaivo die.
The reason I am not going to go all in depth is because I don’t have all of the facts. I can say that this poor girl has been in what is considered a vegetative state for the last 15 years.
I understand that her parents don’t want to let her go, but maybe it’s time that they have HER best interest in mind instead of their own. That may sound callous, but after this long, do they really think she will ever be even semi-normal?
While I do believe that the case should have gone to court in the beginning, I do not think it should have been tried so many times in so many different counties.
I especially do not think that Congress should be involved in any way. The whole deal with them holding an “emergency” session on late Sunday afternoon (tomorrow) to try to pass legislation that will make it mandatory to replace her feeding tube smacks of publicity seeking to me. Terri’s tube was removed on Friday at 1:45pm. If they felt it was so much of an emergency why wasn’t the session held last night, or today at the latest?
While I support the removing of Terri’s feeding tube, I do not support the way they are going to allow her to die. She should be allowed to die humanely instead of being starved to death.
For those who are saying that her husband is “a bad uncaring man” because he has a girlfriend now, please remember it’s been 15 years. He understands that she will never be the real Terri again. She is only a shell of her former self. What would you do after 15 years?
I also don’t like all of the religious people that are here protesting. Take this woman for example: She said, and I quote, “I am here because the DJ on my Christian radio station told me to come.”
Several politicians wanted to call Terri to testify in her own behalf. OK, this I understand because it means that as a federal witness her feeding tube would have to be replaced in order to keep her alive to testify IF she was ever able to. Yet there are many protesters here who are saying “Take Terri to court and let her speak.” These people honestly do not understand that she has not spoken in 15 years. She has done NOTHING in 15 years besides have a few involuntary reactions that are common to people in the state she is in.
Again, I do not claim to have all of the facts, but I do know that many (not all) of these protesters have almost no facts at all.
People who protest because a radio DJ told them to scare me.

Reading this back I can see that I probably should have written it earlier in the day when I was not tired. This is a case of knowing what I want to say, but not knowing quite how to put it.
